Intelligence failure led to Latehar blast: Namdhari

Ranchi: Independent MP Inder Singh Namdhari today alleged that intelligence failure had resulted in the Maoist attack on his convoy on December 3 in Latehar district that claimed eleven lives. "It was an intelligence failure. Let police headquarters give a detailed report on the expenditure of special funds meant to be spent on intelligence gathering," the former Jharkhand Speaker told reporters.

Stating that his Chatra parliamentary constituency covered Maoist-hit Chatra, Palamau and Latehar districts, he dismissed police chief G S Rath`s reported remarks that he had not given information about his engagements. "In the past too, I had sent letters to the DGP and the chief minister about my functions, but there has been no response."

Denying the police claim that he stayed about 30 minutes at Mahuatand on his way back to Medininagar which could have averted the ambush, Namdhari said he had stayed only for about 10 to 15 minutes to look into a local problem. Asked whether the police or he was the target of Maoists, Namdhari said "nobody wants to be a target."

The Maoists had triggered an IED blast and then opened fire on the security vehicle which was following Namdhari`s car at Ladu More. Ten policemen and a child was killed in the attack.
