The team would be deployed in Rifu-Cho town, 365 km north of Tokyo, for a period of 10-12 days and they would assist the local authorities in relief and rehabilitation activities.
The team is being sent following a request of the Japanese government, an official release said.
The NDRF personnel would be staying at Miyagi Prefecture Sports Complex in Tohoku region on Honshu Island. The contingent will be led by Alok Avasthy, commandant, NDRF.
The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) kept the NDRF team in readiness since March 14 to be sent to Japan for search, rescue and relief in the wake of recent earthquake followed by Tsunami that devastated various parts of Japan on Mar 11.
Speaking a function, NDMA Vice Chairman M Shashidhar Reddy said the whole country was proud of the role played by NDRF over the last few years during disasters in different parts of the country.
Maintaining that this is for the first time that a team of NDRF is being deployed outside the country, Reddy expressed confidence that the team would do exemplary work and bring laurels for the Country.
