New Delhi: A group of 12 Mirage 2000 jets of Indian Air Force (IAF) dropped 1,000 kg bombs on a terror camp and destroyed it completely across the Line of Control (LoC), confirmed Foreign Secretary Vijay Gokhale today.
As per reports, the attack took place around 3:30 am today morning. Balakot, Chakothi and Muzaffarabad terror launch pads and JeM control rooms across the LoC have been completely destroyed in the IAF air strikes.
Indian Air Force has put on high alert all air defence systems along the international border and LoC to respond to any possible action by Pakistan Air Force.
Earlier today, the Pakistan Army alleged that the Indian Air Force violated the Line of Control (LoC) in Muzafarabad sector.
"Indian aircrafts intruded from Muzafarabad sector. Facing timely and effective response from Pakistan Air Force released payload in haste while escaping which fell near Balakot. No casualties or damage," Major General Asif Ghafoor, Director General of Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the media wing of the army, said in a tweet.
"Indian Air Force violated Line of Control Pakistan. Pakistan Air Force immediately scrambled. Indian aircraft gone back," he tweeted.
Ghafoor also tweeted some pictures confirming that those were payload of Indian aircrafts.
The allegation came amid heightened tension between India and Pakistan after the February 14 suicide attack by Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammad terror group that killed 40 CRPF soldiers in Jammu and Kashmir's Pulwama district.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is holding a high-level security meeting in New Delhi. Indian Air Force has put on high alert all air defence systems along the international border and LoC to respond to any possible action by Pakistan Air Force.
Pakistan Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi has summoned an emergency meeting in Islamabad to discuss security situation.
Commenting on the air strike by IAF fighter jets, BJP leader Subramanian Swamy said," Even if it was their territory, we have under the United Nation charter the right of self-defence. They have been attacking us & they say we want to give a thousand cuts to India, so our government did the right thing by giving them 1000 bombs."
"Actually it was mostly on our own territory, which is called PoK- Pakistan Occupied Kashmir. So you can always bomb your own territory, nothing wrong," added Swamy.
Extending support to the air strike, Congress President Rahul Gandhi took to Twitter to "salute the pilots".
