Nainital: The Uttarakhand High Court on Friday refused to grant bail to Madhumani Tripathi, who is serving life sentence along with her husband Amarmani Tripathi after being convicted for the murder of poetess Madhumita Shukla eight years ago.

A two-member bench of the High Court comprising Justices Sudhanshu Dhulia and Nirmal Yadav refused to grant bail to Tripathi on the ground that the petition challenging her conviction by a lower court is listed for final hearing next month, said Virendra Singh Adhikari, counsel Madhumita`s sister Nidhi Shukla.

Tripathi had applied for bail on medical grounds, he said.

Madhumani Tripahi, her husband Amarmani and two others were convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment by a Dehra Dun court in 2007 for hatching a conspiracy and killing poetess Shukla in Lucknow in 2003.
