Hours after a B.Tech third-year girl student was found dead at the hostel campus of the Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) University in Bhubaneswar, police arrested her 'boyfriend' on charges of harassment. The deceased girl’s friends and acquaintances alleged that her boyfriend Advik Srivastava, a mechanical engineering student of the same university, inflicted physical and mental torture on the victim, during their three-year relationship.
“The deceased Prakriti Lamsal from Nepal had to endure relentless harassment from Advik during her three year relationship,” a fellow student alleged. Based on the complaints by the students, police have reportedly arrested Advik while a further probe into the incident is on.

Preliminary probe revealed the girl died by suicide over her ‘broken’ relationship with Advik. The unfortunate demise of Prakriti prompted fellow students to express their discontent by blocking roads near the campus as a mark of protest.
The university campus echoed with slogans of ‘We Want Justice’ as students accused the Univeristy of supressing the matter. A sense of unrest prevailed among the students, who demanded transparency in the investigation.
“They are trying to suppress the truth. They took away her (the deceased’s) phone and are not handing it back. The Vice-Chancellor and every other university authority are trying to hide the evidence,” a student can be heard saying in a purported video clip that has gone viral.
