New Delhi: Government will take up with Italy, the issue of golfer Amritinder Singh being asked to take off his turban at the Milan airport during security check.

"We will take it up (the issue)," External Affairs Minister S M Krishna told reporters outside Parliament, when asked whether the government will take up the matter with Italy.

"We have very strongly protested against such security measures. We are proud of the turban, the Sikhs in the subcontinent wear, and there is an element of sanctity in wearing it...The sensitivity and sentiments of billions of Indians cannot be hurt," he said.

The Minister said whenever there has been a violation of this sort, "We take it up, with whether it is the United States or Italy."

Amritinder, who was accompanying Jeev Milkha Singh for three tournaments on the European Tour, was asked to remove his turban during the check at Milan airport.
