The Bangladeshi mastermind of the SIM box racket, recently busted in Cuttack, Bhubaneswar and Ranchi- Asadur Zaman, was operating the SIM boxes from Dhaka using smart switch, informed Bhubaneswar and Cuttack Twin City Police Commissioner Sanjeeb Panda on Thursday.

According to Panda, Zaman founded a software company in Dhaka and he was directly operating the SIM Box centers at Bhubaneswar and Ranchi. He entered India via Agartala and returned Bangladesh via West Bengal after staying in the country for two months.

“NIA team has interrogated Raju Mandal and he may be questioned further. We will seek permission to take Raju Mandal on remand for seven more days,” said Panda at a presser in Bhubaneswar on Thursday.

“Raju Mandal was a service provider. His job was to set up SIM boxes. More investigation is required to find out who were using those boxes and for which purpose they were using it. We will create awareness among people to give detailed information about the persons whom they are giving their houses on rent,” Panda further said.

“We will try to establish the fact that Zaman had stayed in India. Our first work will be to collect evidence against him. Subsequently, we will request for his arrest through CBI and Interpol. Further investigation and cross verification into the incident is currently underway. We are currently questioning Raju Mandal to find further clue into the investigation,” he added.

As per reports, the SIM boxes were used to make international calls to Pakistan, Afghanistan, Turkey, and other countries. So, the Commissionerate Police suspects the duo of having terrorist links.
