Inspection of the outer Ratna Bhandar of Lord Jagannath Temple on Thursday revealed cracks on its wall and ceiling. Moreover, the walls were found to be damp, informed inspection committee member and senior servitor Durga Dasmohapatra.

After coming out from the inner Ratna Bhandar, Dasmohapatra said that cracks have developed on the walls of Ratna Bhandar and some stones have come off from the roof.

“We saw three to four small stones fallen from the roof of the Ratna Bhandar. A crack was found near outer Ratna Bhandar in one place. The team formed for the opening of Ratna Bhandar in 2018 had raised the issue then. The floor is not so damp. However, Ratna Bhandar needs repair and only ASI can tell more about it,” said Dasmohapatra.

“With blessings from Lord Jagannath, the first phase of the work has been completed today. All other works will be completed soon. We all were encouraged after Gajapati king Dibyasingha Deb joined us. We don’t have a record of the exact quantity of valuables donated by King Kapilendra Deba to Srimandir. After Kapilendra Deba, Srimandir has been attacked more than 16 times in a bid to extort valuables. Whatever ornaments are available, it has been recorded during the inventory process in 1978,” he added.
