Jaipur: Perturbed over a youth`s attempt to outrage her modesty, a teenage girl today tried to end her life by setting herself on fire in Sikar district in Rajasthan, police said. The 16-year-old girl, a student of class IX, was returning from her school near Neem ka thana town when the accused Rajaram met her yesterday, police said.
The accused, who was known to the girl, tried to rape her, however, she managed to escape, police said. Traumatised by the incident, she poured some inflammable and set herself ablaze in her house on Tuesday.
Family members rushed the girl in critical condition to a nearby hospital from where she was referred to SMS hospital Jaipur, they said. A hunt has been launched to nab the absconding accused, they said, adding, condition of the girl was stated to be critical.
