Kochi:Former CJI K G Balakrishnan`s younger brother Bhaskaran, who is facing allegations of amassing wealth disproportionate to his known sources of income, today resigned as special government pleader in the Kerala High Court.

Bhaskaran resigned on health grounds, court sources said.

His resignation letter was sent through a special messenger to Advocate General C P Sudhakara Prasad, the sources said.

Bhaskaran`s resignation comes two days after Balakrishnan`s son-in-law P V Sreenijan quit the Youth Congress on similar charges. A complaint was also filed in a vigilance court seeking a probe into the charges against family members of the former CJI

Sreenijan, who had unsuccessfully contested the last assembly polls on Congress ticket, is facing a vigilance probe.

Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan had said this week that his government would take action against Bhaskaran if any complaint was received against him.

Facing charges of amassing disproportionate wealth in Kerala and Tamil Nadu, Bhaskaran had gone on medical leave after the Advocate General asked him to either quit as special government pleader in the state high court or go on leave.
