Yograj Singh, father of India Champions captain Yuvraj Singh, has strongly criticized former Pakistan skipper Shahid Afridi for making what he called unwarranted remarks regarding the ongoing India vs Pakistan cricket situation, which has been deeply affected by political controversies.
The tension between India and Pakistan has escalated in recent months following the terror attack in Pahalgam Valley and India's retaliatory military operation, Operation Sindoor. These events have significantly worsened the geopolitical climate and severely impacted cricketing ties between the two nations.
In a recent decision, the India Champions—defending champions of the inaugural World Championship of Legends—refused to play against Pakistan Champions in the ongoing second edition of the tournament. This led to Pakistan receiving a direct entry into the finals. Simultaneously, the BCCI came under public criticism after agreeing to the Asia Cup 2025 fixture between India and Pakistan as scheduled by the Asian Cricket Council (ACC).
Amid this backdrop, Yograj Singh has spoken out, specifically questioning the need for Pakistani players, particularly Shahid Afridi, to make public statements about the issue.
“What’s the need to comment on this at all?” Yograj asked. “First it was Iftikhar who spoke out, then Shahid Afridi. When people asked me about it, I told them—what do you expect me to say? This is not a personal matter. These are politically driven decisions made by the governments.”
He further emphasized that individuals must face the consequences of both their actions and decisions. Citing Indian scriptures and historical context, Yograj underlined the complexity of the issue, reinforcing that the current crisis extends far beyond the realm of sports.
