Rajkot: Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday asked government officials of Saurashtra and Kutch to focus on developing basic amenities at the taluka level, saying a taluka was the "soul" of the state.

Nearly 600 officials from eight districts of Saurashtra and Kutch, including collectors, district development officers (DDOs), and various corporation-level officials of the region were present at the ATVT (Apno Taluko Vibrant Taluko) seminar organised by Gujarat government here.

The seminar was inaugurated by Gujarat energy minister Saurabh Patel while the Chief Minister addressed the officials through a video conference.

Patel later said the ATVT concept was very unique. The objective was to improve `quality of life" of people living at taluka level, he said, adding the state government had allocated Rs 375 crore for the project.
