DoT to look into process followed in 1999 to frame NTP 2011
New Delhi: The Telecom ministry will look into the process followed while the formulation of NTP ‘99 to come out with a New Telecom Policy 2011, for which Minister Kapil Sibal will start holding discussions with the industry soon.
According to sources, Telecom Secretary R. Chandrashekhar held an internal meeting with members and directed to find out the process followed while formulation of NTP `99 and decided that internal view of DoT would be firmed up by January 31.
Earlier this month, Mr. Sibal had announced the process to initiate NTP 2011 while announcing his 100 day agenda.
During the meeting, the members were entrusted to ensure constitution of committee and finalising Terms of Reference (TOR) by the end of January 2011 on the basis of the inputs from all the officers.
It was also deliberated that the discussion and inputs from consultation with key stakeholders during the round table conferences with Mr. Sibal will serve as an input for formulation of telecom policy.
Mr. Chandrashekhar is understood to have also desired to check if any institutional support was required in the process of formulation of the NTP-2011 so that it can accordingly be provided.
