A 7-foot-long python was rescued from Udala forest area in Dugudha village of Mayurbhanj district and later released into the Similipal Wildlife Sanctuary on Wednesday.

According to sources, the reptile was found entangled in a fishing net in the backyard of a villager’s house. Locals spotted the snake struggling to free itself and immediately informed a snake rescue team.

Acting promptly, the rescue team reached the spot and carefully freed the python from the net without causing it harm. After ensuring it was in good health, the snake was released back into its natural habitat inside Similipal.

Forest officials and wildlife activists have urged villagers to remain cautious and to immediately report such incidents to avoid injury to both humans and wildlife.

In June, a school teacher in Koraput district's Dasamantapur block rescued a giant python found in a village farmland. The 12-foot python had caused panic among locals, but the teacher's swift action helped safely release it back into the wild.

Similarly, a huge python was earlier spotted while swimming in the Ib River near Sundargarh, in May this year, sending a wave of excitement and concern among locals.
