Smriti Irani’s Comeback in Her Iconic Role
Best known for her portrayal of Tulsi Virani in Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, Smriti Irani became a household name and a symbol of Indian television’s golden era. Her return has rekindled nostalgia among long-time viewers, reminding audiences of the charm and emotional depth she once brought to the screen.
Now, with Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi 2 topping TRP charts and even surpassing Anupamaa, Smriti’s comeback comes with a record-breaking paycheck, making her the highest-paid TV actor.
Smriti Becomes Highest-Paid TV Actor
While the exact figure remains unconfirmed, reports claim she is charging a staggering Rs 14 lakh per episode, far beyond Hina Khan’s Rs 2 lakh and Rupali Ganguly’s Rs 3 lakh per episode.
During a recent interview, Smriti confirmed the buzz. When asked about her journey from bagging the role of Tulsi in 2000 to becoming the highest-paid actor on Indian television, Smriti said, "Yes".
For her, the big number is not just about money but about what it represents.
She told CNN-News18, "You also set that benchmark as a professional to say that if you deliver on history on numbers and revenue, why not?"
"Because not everybody who’s watching us knows we get to negotiate our contracts as employees. I’m a part of a union, so the first thing I do is actually have my union number registered," she added.
