Puducherry: CPI staged a fast here on Tuesday, demanding that the Centre declare Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa a `war criminal` for alleged killings of Tamils in the island nation.

CPI national council member Nara Kalainathan and former agriculture minister and party local unit secretary R Viswanathan led the fast at different venues.

The party also demanded that the Centre support the resolution of the UN Human Rights Council against Sri Lanka for alleged human rights violations in that nation during the conflict against the LTTE.
