New Delhi: The Cabinet Committee on Parliamentary Affairs on Friday recommended ending the Budget Session by March 25, curtailing it from the original date of April 21.

At a meeting chaired by Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee, the CCPA decided to recommend cutting short the Budget Session in view of the elections to assemblies in five states.

The recommendation of the CCPA will now be presented to the Business Advisory Committee of Parliament.

Parliament sources said the entire financial business of the Government would be completed by March 25.

As per the original schedule, the first phase of the Budget Session was to end on March 16. The second phase was planned to be held between April four and April 21.

The Election Commission announced polls in five states -- Assam, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Kerala -- from April four to May 10. The counting of votes in all the three states will be held on May 13.

Government sources said there was a proposal to hold a special session of Parliament beginning late May.
