New Delhi: BJP will launch a nationwide three-day agitation beginning from May 15 to protest against the UPA`s "anti-farmer policies". Announcing this here today, party MP and General Secretary Narendra Singh Tomar said the decision for the stir was taken at BJP office-bearers` meeting chaired by party president Nitin Gadkari.

Party workers at all district headquarters across the country will lodge their protest against the "anti-farmer policies" of the Centre by burning effigies on May 15, 16 and 17 as part of the agitation, he said. Tomar said while on the one hand the nation is producing record quantity of foodgrains, they are going waste due to inadequate storage facilities and infrastructure on the other.

He also pointed to the acute shortage of gunny bags for storing procured foodgrains and said the Centre has failed to make adequate arrangements for availability of procured foodrains despite some states making advance requirements. The BJP leader also criticised the UPA policies relating to farming and farmers and said lakhs of tonnes of foodgrains were going waste due to such policies.
