Lucknow: BJP today demanded that a criminal case should be filed against Uttar Pradesh Minister Ratan Lal Ahirwar, who has been indicted by the Lokayukta on charges of misusing fund and encroaching village land.

"Ahirwar`s resignation is not sufficient. A criminal case should be lodged against the Minister as he is facing serious charges and a fair investigation should be carried out," BJP spokesman Vijay Bahadur Pathak said.

Chief Minister Mayawati was merely doing a formality by removing ministers facing serious charges, he alleged. Ahirwar is facing serious charges, including misuse of government fund and illegal possession on gram sabha land, the BJP spokesman said.

He also sought reasons from the BSP government for not ordering any inquiry against ministers Rajesh Tripathi, Awadhpal Singh, Badshah Singh and Rangnath Mishra. The four were removed on the recommendation of the Lokpal for various corruption charges. "If the BSP government has any morality, it should have lodged an FIR against leaders by taking cognisance of allegations against them," he said.
