Dense fog accompanied by rising temperatures was observed in most parts of Odisha on Saturday and is expected to continue for the next two days, as per a forecast made by the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

A layer of fog with varying low visibility was witnessed across several places, affecting roads and transportation. Predictions stated that disrupted weather owing to fog is likely to continue for the next two days.

The Weather Department also stated that dense fog is likely to prevail over most of Odisha from 2 am to 9 am. On Republic Day, a yellow warning for dense fog has been issued for the districts of Khordha, Ganjam, Gajapati, Kandhamal, Kalahandi, Puri, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Dhenkanal, Angul, Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Jajpur, and Bhadrak.

Further, seven districts, including Puri, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Bhadrak, Sundargarh, Kalahandi, and Kandhamal have been placed under dense fog alert for January 27 and 28. Visibility will be limited to 50-200 meters, with some areas potentially experiencing zero visibility.

The IMD also predicted that minimum temperatures in Odisha would rise by a further 2 to 3 degrees Celsius after the next four to five days. It attributed the sudden change in weather to the state being under the influence of a low-pressure circulation in nearby regions. Thus, a significant influx of moisture-laden air has given rise to these dense foggy conditions.
