The state government on Tuesday assured the Orissa High Court that a standard operating procedure (SOP) was in place for police behaviour with Army personnel at police stations.

The ADG modernisation also informed the court that CCTV cameras were installed in at least 96% of the police stations across the state. The remaining 4% would be completed soon, the court was told.

Furthermore, the state government informed that a probe into the Bharatpur assault case was going on in the right direction and the chargesheet would be filed soon.

Earlier, the top court had expressed displeasure over the non-operation of CCTV cameras at various police stations in the state and directed immediate installation of cameras in all police stations across the state.

Worth mentioning, the Bharatpur police personnel received flak for allegedly assaulting an Indian Army major and his fiancee at the Bharatpur police station on September 15 when the couple had visited the police station to complain.

The Crime Branch of Odisha Police is currently investigating the case.
