Tonk (Raj): Army Chief General V K Singh today honoured the widows of martyred jawans and awarded financial assistance to disabled soldiers at an event here in the district.

The event was organised as a followup to the army`s declaration of year 2012 as `Year of the Veterans`, a defence spokesperson said.

Gen Singh honoured the widows of eleven martyred jawans and gave away financial assistances to two disabled soldiers in the event held at RAC parade ground. The Army chief also briefly addressed retired army personnel during his half-an-hour stay.

During the entire course of Gen Singh`s visit, media was not allowed to enter into the RAC parade ground. Among those present at the event were Lt Gen Gyan Bhushan (General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of South Western Command) and other serving and retired armed forces personnel.

After the event, Gen Singh went to his friend Mumtaz Hussain Raja and stayed there at his house for 15 minutes.
