Erode: An Advocate-cum-Notary has been arrested for allegedly cheating two youths of Rs 3.2 lakh after promising to get them jobs in the judiciary department.

M.D. Thangavel was arrested in Coimbatore on Saturday evening and produced before Judicial Magistrate Madhava Ramanujam here who remanded him to 15 days judicial custody, police said.

According to police, Muthuswamy and Rajasekaran of Madurai had given Rs 1.60 lakh each to Thangavel about two years ago for getting employment in the clerical cadre.

Though it was more than 18 months, they neither got the jobs nor the money was returned following which they filed a complaint with Erode police. After inquiry, police registered a cheating case and arrested the lawyer.
