Barabanki: Over 500-year-old `ashtadhatu` and copper coins were found during digging of a road here, police said here today. According to SP R K Bhardwaj, the digging work was being carried out yesterday in Bijrupurwa hamlet at Masauli under MNREGA programme when labourers recovered a mud pitcher containing the coins, bearing name of Firoz Sultan of Mughal period.

He said the labourers thought it to be gold coins and distributed among themselves. When police got to know about the incident, they launched a search operation in which seven labourers were arrested and 30 coins recovered from their possession, Bhardwaj said. Search is on for other labourers, he said.
