New Delhi: Nearly 40 countries, including Iran, China and Pakistan are expected to take part in the investment meet on Afghanistan to be held on Thursday to mobilise flow of private capital to the war-torn country.

The meet--Delhi Investment Summit on Afghanistan--is being organised by Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) with the support of the governments of India and Afghanistan and in cooperation with relevant Afghan investment and business organizations, a Ministry of External Affairs release said today.

The objective of the Summit is to attract foreign investment into Afghanistan in the light of new opportunities opening up in various sectors in that country, it said. The Summit will include presentations by the government of Afghanistan and others on the investment climate and opportunities in Afghanistan and panel discussions on cross- cutting issues as well as sector-specific themes.

Potential regional and international investors, including companies from India, will participate in the event, MEA said. The meet is being organised in line with India?s long- term commitment to assisting the people and government of Afghanistan as they build a peaceful, pluralistic, democratic and prosperous Afghanistan. India has already committed USD 2 billion towards reconstruction and developmental activities in Afghanistan.
