Srikakulam: As many as 19 Bangladeshi fishermen were rescued from their fishing trawler near the sea shore in Donkuru village of Srikakulam district in Andhra Pradesh this afternoon, police said.

The adrift boat with the fishermen on its board was first spotted by employees of a private ship from Visakhapatnam who subsequently alerted the police. As per the preliminary inquiry, the fishermen are Bangladeshi nationals and had lost their way while fishing after their trawler developed some problem, a police officer said.

The rescued crew also said that they were without drinking water and food for the past few days and were being shifted to a hospital, he said, adding "we would question all of them thoroughly after their treatment".
