Berhampur: A local court on Thursday acquitted 14 accused in the hooch tragedy in Ganjam district five years ago due to lack of evidence.

The judgement was passed by second additional district and sessions judge (Ganjam and Gajapati), M K Das.

At least 11 people had died and 39 others were taken ill seriously after consuming spurious liquor on April 22, 2006 at Golabandh, a fishing village.

Two accused - the main accused Dharam Sahu and another had died in jail. Two other accused have, however, remained at large since the incident.
