OTV’s daredevil reporter late Arindam Das was remembered on his 41st birth anniversary on Tuesday. On this occasion, a condolence meeting was observed at his ancestral village Raikala in Keonjhar district.
Besides family members, senior citizens, intellectuals, journalists and people from different walks of life attended the meeting.
Offering floral tribute at the portrait of the young and dynamic reporter, they spoke highly about his unique reporting style.
For his dedication and bravery, Arindam was known across the state. Basically, he was popular for his ground zero disaster reporting during cyclones and floods.
Notably, Arindam breathed his last while covering a rescue operation of an elephant near Mundali barrage in Mahanadi river in Cuttack on September 24, 2021.
Das had been on a boat with OTV cameraperson Prabhat Sinha and members of the Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force. They were trying to assess the efforts to rescue the pachyderm stuck near the barrage in Mahanadi river. The powerboat they had boarded capsized due to the strong current in the river.
Arindam along with the cameraman were rushed to SCB Medical College and Hospital. But Arindam was declared dead.
