  • In view of the cyclonic storm Jawad, the Regional Meteorological Centre has issued an advisory for the Twin City - Bhubaneswar and Cuttack. As per the MeT, there may be water logging in low-lying areas and closure of underpasses, occasional reduction in visibility during intense spells of rain, disruption of traffic due to waterlogging in roads leading to increased travel time and breaking of tree branches. Hence, people should check for traffic congestion on their route before leaving for a destination. They have also been advised to follow any traffic advisories that are issued in this regard.   • The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Friday predicted that the cyclonic storm ‘Jawad’ may brush Odisha coast near Puri. However, the Odisha government has swung into action and augmenting the response measures for a possible landfall.

    Special Relief Commissioner (SRC), Pradeep Jena said, “As per IMD’s forecasted track, the cyclone may just brush Odisha coast near Puri or it may slightly enter the landmass. However, the Odisha government has prepared itself for a possible landfall in Ganjam or Puri or Jagatsinghpur and readied the response measures accordingly.”

  • Even though the exact path of Cyclone Jawad is yet to ascertained by the weather experts, the IMD's prediction about the approaching cyclonic storm's likelihood of making landfall somewhere near the coastal area of Puri district has sent the district administration on high alert.

    The authorities of Krushnaprasad Block in the district have announced the closure of all ghats across Chilika bank. As per the directive, no boats will be allowed to enter into waters from today and the order will remain in force till December 6. Moreover, the vessels will also remain closed.

    The block authorities have also advised the farmers to harvest their crops and store the produce in safe locations before the downpour begins.

  • With Odisha bracing for another cyclone (set to be named Jawad) from the Bay of Bengal, the Odisha State Disaster Management Authority (OSDMA) has alerted people in the coastal belt of the State to exercise caution and follow the government's directions to ensure their safety from the natural disaster. In this regard, the OSDMA has issued some tips on how to prepare an Emergency Kit at home with all essential supplies to ride out the disaster in case you need to evacuate.

    1. Keep dry ration like Chuda, Sattu, jaggery, biscuit and clean water for drinking in stock for at least 3 days
    2. Don't forget lighting equipment like torch, batteries, candles, match-sticks
    3. Also, pack first-aid & extremely essential medicine supplies
    4. Set aside important documents like certificates, land records, bank papers, IDs, and resident proofs in leak-proof plastic bags
