The voting for the crucial bypoll to Padampur assembly constituency in Bargarh district began today amid tight security. Polling will continue till 4 pm. Biju Janata Dal candidate Barsha Singh Bariha, Congress’ Satyabhushan Sahu and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)’s Pradip Purohit are in the fray for the assembly seat.
Altogether 2,57,474 voters (1,29,497 male and 1,27,565 female voters) are expected to exercise their franchise at 319 booths. Counting of votes will be done on December 8.

Padampur bypoll: 65.28% voter turnout recorded till 3pm. Around 12,000 voters still on queues in 89 polling booths, informs Odisha Chief Electoral Officer, Sushil Lohani.
The polling percentage in Padampur stood at 46.96 per cent till 1 PM.
At a time when many responsible citizens of our country are seen refraining from casting their votes citing different reasons, these differently-abled persons have set an example by inking their fingers during the Padampur by-polls.
The polling for the byelection to Padampur assembly constituency in Bargarh district is currently underway. As many as 2,57,474 electorates are exercising their franchise. Among them is Umesh Panigrahi, an NRI living in Oman, who returned home with the sole purpose of exercising his democracy rights by casting his vote.
The polling percentage in Padampur stood at 29.73% till 11AM.
Technical glitches in a few EVMs were reported before Padampur bypoll. The EVMs were found defunct during mock polls and voting in four booths. However, they were fixed/replaced immediately. Voting is underway in a peaceful manner. There has been no report of any untoward incident, informed CEO Sushil Lohani.
In the ongoing Padampur bypoll, Odisha chief electoral officer (CEO) informed that the polling percentage stood at 8.5pc at 9AM.

With less than 24 hours to go for the crucial Padampur bypoll, tension ran high at Sareikela village under Paikamal block in Bargarh district after two BJD workers were allegedly caught on Sunday while distributing money to woo voters ahead of the much-awaited bypoll.
While voting will start from 7 am and continue till 4 pm, a total of 2, 57,474 voters (1,29,497 male and 1,27,565 female voters) will exercise their franchise at 319 booths. Of them, six are pink booths and 15 are model booths.
