The voting for the crucial bypoll to Padampur assembly constituency in Bargarh district began today amid tight security. Polling will continue till 4 pm.

The voting for the crucial bypoll to Padampur assembly constituency in Bargarh district began today amid tight security. Polling will continue till 4 pm. Biju Janata Dal candidate Barsha Singh Bariha, Congress’ Satyabhushan Sahu and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)’s Pradip Purohit are in the fray for the assembly seat.  
Altogether 2,57,474 voters (1,29,497 male and 1,27,565 female voters) are expected to exercise their franchise at 319 booths. Counting of votes will be done on December 8.

    The polling for the byelection to Padampur assembly constituency in Bargarh district is currently underway. As many as 2,57,474 electorates are exercising their franchise. Among them is Umesh Panigrahi, an NRI living in Oman, who returned home with the sole purpose of exercising his democracy rights by casting his vote.

    No incident of violence, polls underway in peaceful manner

    Technical glitches in a few EVMs were reported before Padampur bypoll. The EVMs were found defunct during mock polls and voting in four booths. However, they were fixed/replaced immediately. Voting is underway in a peaceful manner. There has been no report of any untoward incident, informed CEO Sushil Lohani.

    While voting will start from 7 am and continue till 4 pm, a total of 2, 57,474 voters (1,29,497 male and 1,27,565 female voters) will exercise their franchise at 319 booths. Of them, six are pink booths and 15 are model booths.
