After a gap of around 9 years, 106 NACs/Municipalities and three Municipal Corporations in Odisha will see their elected representatives and heads on Saturday.
The elections to the urban local body polls were held amid tight security but sporadic cases of violence on March 24. As per the State Election Commission, 65 percent of voters turned out to cast their franchise and decide the fate of 6411 candidates.
For the first time, the State has seen direct election to the posts of Chairperson and Mayors in the ULBs.
The Biju Janata Dal has won the Mayor seats in all the three Municipal Corporations of Odisha in the urban local body elections, the results of which were declared today. Party leader Sulochana Das, Subhash Singh and Sanghamitra Dalei have clinched the three topmost posts in the MCs of Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, and Berhampur respectively.
The Biju Janata Dal came out on top in Municipality/NAC Chairperson elections in Mayurbhanj district while securing 3 seats.
Party's Puppy Prusty, Abhishek Pattnaik, Krushnananda Mohanty victorious in Karanjia, Rairangpur & Baripada respectively. BJP candidate Pramila Panda has won in Udala.
BJD wins 73 Chairperson seats, BJP distant second with 16 while Congress and other candidates take away 7 and 9 seats respectively.
BJD also secures the lion's share of 1183 councillor seats with BJP way behind in the second with 286 seats while Congress and others content with 139 and 116 seats.
The latest trends of the election vote counting results from the Municipal Corporations of Cuttack and Bhubaneswar show BJD way ahead from other Opposition.
