The voting for the much awaited byelection to the Dhamnagar Assembly constituency in Bhadrak district began on Thursday morning. Over 2.38 lakh voters to decide fate of five candidates in the fray. The polling which began at 7 am will continue in 252 booths, of which 110 are sensitive, till 6 pm.

Dhamnagar Bypoll: 58.53 percent polling recorded till 5 pm
Around 58.53 per cent votes were polled in the Dhamnagar byelection till 5 pm, informed the Chief Electoral Officer on Thursday. Earlier, 38.78 per cent of voters had exercised their franchise in the by-elections till 1 pm.

Booth polling officer dies during voting during Dhamnagar by-election
A polling officer engaged on duty at booth number 139 during the by-election to the Dhamnagar Assembly constituency passed away on Thursday. He was undergoing treatment at Cuttack SCB when he breathed his last. Bhadrak Collector informed about the development. The polling officer was taken ill on Wednesday.
