After a long gap of 46 years, the Ratna Bhandar (treasure trove) of the 12th-century Puri Srimandir was finally opened at the auspicious time of 1:28 PM on Sunday.
The outer chamber of the Ratna Bhandar was opened first and all the ornaments of the deities were completely shifted to the temporary strong room. Then the door of the inner Ratna Bhandar was opened by breaking the three locks by following the SOP.
However, the shifting of valuables to the temporary strong room couldn't be done due to shortage of time. It will be done on another day after 'Bahuda Yatra'.

The Ratna Bhandar of Puri Srimandir was opened at the auspicious time of 1:28 PM today. Today only inspection of the Ratna Bhandar will be done, marking a significant event in the temple's governance and historical preservation efforts.
"A total of 11 members will go inside Ratna Bhandar including two from the inspection Committee," says Chairman Justice Biswanath Rath adding that the SJTA Chief Administrator has sought the key from the treasury.
Key in the treasury has been handed over to the designated official and it will presented before the Committee while opening of Ratna Bhandar, says Puri Collector.
"Auspicious time for the opening of Ratna Bhandar is 1:28 pm," informs inspection Committee Chairman Justice Biswanath Rath.

"We have sought the Lord's strength for this task. At the high-level Committee meeting, we will select members and begin the process of entering the temple after 1 pm. Today, Ratna Bhandar will be opened," says Committee Chairman Justice Biswanath Rath on the Puri Srimandir Ratna Bhandar Opening.
SJTA Chief Administrator Arabinda Padhee said that temporary restrictions will be implemented when the Committee members proceed to Ratna Bhandar. Only the Singhadwara gate will remain open, with authorized persons and servitors permitted entry based on a pre-approved list. Committee members will undergo frisking near Beherandwara, and the entire process will be recorded on video as per the SOP.

For the opening of the treasure trove, the Odisha government has given an SOP to the temple administration and the management committee on which basis they will take steps one by one. So the inventory will be done in a transparent manner. A team has been formed under the leadership of the chief administrator. The team will have representatives of the RBI, representatives of ASI, servitors associated with ‘bhandar’, members of the managing committee and the high-level committee.
Odisha goverment has informed that a digital catalogue containing details of ornaments like their number, quality and weight with their digital photographs will be prepared. "We are also preparing a digital document which can be referred to in future,” said Odisha Law Minister on Saturday.
The State Law Minister on Saturday said that the phases of the work will continue. "In order to maintain transparency in the inventory of ornaments, we are seeking assistance from the Reserve Bank of India. Their representatives will be present during that time and cooperate with the team of the managing committee. The chief administrator of Srimandir has been entrusted with the responsibility to manage the process smoothly,” he added.“
