A newborn was reportedly found stuck in an open borewell at Laripali in the Rengali area of Sambalpur on Tuesday. As soon as the matter came to the fore, a massive operation was launched to rescue the infant. Fire Services personnel along with 3 excavator machines are undertaking digging alongside the borewell to reach the infant, whose cries are being reportedly heard intermittently.
Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik said every life is precious and extended his thanks to the ODRAF, Fire Services & other rescue team members, and the district administration for the successful rescue.
As soon as the infant was taken out of the borewell pipe, it was immediately shifted to the hospital with the help of an ambulance that was kept on standby

The iron pipe of the borewell will be cut open to rescue the infant. An electric-cutter instead of a gas cutter will be used to ensure the safety of the infant. said DG, Odisha Fire Services, Sudhansu Sarangi.
Rescuers were enthused after reportedly hearing the cries of the infant. In a bid to provide some warmth to the infant inside the well an electric filament bulb has been sent inside.
A victim location camera has been sent from Bhubaneswar on a special flight to Jharsuguda. From Jharsuguda, the camera will be sent to the spot, informed Fire Services DG, Sudhanshu Sarangi
