Judgment in RG Kar Rape-Murder case to be pronounced at 2:45 PM

In the RG Kar rape-murder case, the judgment on the convict Sanjay Roy's punishment is set to be announced at 2:45 PM today. During the proceedings, Roy's lawyer argued that even in the rarest of rare cases, there should be an opportunity for reformation. He emphasized that the court must provide reasons why Roy is unworthy of rehabilitation. The public prosecutor, according to the defense, must present evidence to justify why Roy should be completely eliminated from society. Meanwhile, the victim's family lawyer demanded the maximum punishment, stating, "I want death sentence as maximum punishment..."

I am being framed, have not committed any crime: Sanjay Roy

In the RG Kar rape-murder case, the judge addressed the accused, Sanjay Roy, stating, "I told you the previous day the charges you were convicted of and the charges that have been proven against you." 

Roy responded, asserting his innocence: "I have not done anything, neither rape nor murder. I am being falsely implicated. You have seen everything. I am innocent. I already told you that I was tortured. They made me sign whatever they wanted..."

Sealdah court begins hearing RG Kar rape-murder case

The Sealdah court in Kolkata has started hearing the RG Kar rape-murder case after Sanjay Roy was found guilty of the rape and murder of a 31-year-old trainee doctor on January 18, reported ANI. The court will deliver the quantum of sentence today, with Roy’s involvement confirmed through forensic evidence.

Convict in RG Kar doctor's rape-murder taken to court for pronouncement of sentence

Amid tight security arrangements, Sanjay Roy, who has been convicted of raping and murdering an on-duty doctor at the state-run R G Kar Medical College and Hospital, was brought to a court here on Monday for pronouncement of the sentence, police said.

Flanked by several police vehicles, Roy was brought out of jail around 10.15 am.

The Sealdah court has been fortified with nearly 500 policemen deployed and the authorities left no stone unturned to prevent any untoward incident, an officer said.

Despite the heavy police deployment, many people thronged the court premises and some were seen attempting to climb railings to catch a glimpse of the convict.
