In a first, the Odisha Staff Selection Commission (OSSC) is all set to conduct a computer-based test (CBT) for the selection of suitable candidates for the posts of teacher in secondary schools across the State.
The State government recently announced to appoint 7540 high school teachers in order to fill up the remaining vacancies in all the 4,848 government high schools in the State.
Hitherto, candidates had been selected for the posts of the teacher on the basis of their career marks. However, this year the State government has decided to entrust the OSSC to select the candidates through the computer-based recruitment examination.
The OSSC will soon bring out a detailed advertisement containing the number of vacancies, salary admissible to the posts, requisite qualifications, eligibility conditions for selection, mode of selection, scheme, and syllabus of examination and documents to be submitted to determine eligibility.
As per a government circular, the selection will be made on the basis of the performance of candidates in a Computer Based Test (CBT) to be conducted by the OSSC. In case the numbers of applicants are high, the OSSC will decide to shortlist the candidates for the final Computer Based Test (CBT) through any standard procedure.
The government circular says that Trained Graduate Teacher (ARTS/ Science (PCM)/ Science (CBZ)) will get an initial pay Group B (Level -9 of Pay matrix) Rs. 35,400 while Hindi/Sanskrit/Telugu/Urdu Teacher will draw Rs 35,400. The salary of Physical Education Teacher has been fixed at Group C (Level -8 of Pay matrix) Rs 29,200. Besides, DA and other allowances will be admissible as per the rules.
