According to multiple international reports, operational planning is in place as Washington increases its military presence in the Middle East.

Significant US Military Presence in the Middle East

The US currently maintains a sizeable naval and air deployment in the region. This includes 13 warships, among them the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln, supported by destroyers and littoral combat ships. Another carrier, USS Gerald R. Ford, is also heading toward the area with additional escort vessels.

In addition to naval assets, the Pentagon has deployed advanced fighter aircraft such as F-22 Raptors, F-15s and F-16s. Aerial refuelling aircraft like KC-135 tankers, along with surveillance and reconnaissance platforms, have also been positioned to sustain extended operations if required.

Nuclear Programme Remains the Core Issue

At the heart of the tensions lies Iran’s nuclear programme. The United States withdrew from the 2015 nuclear agreement, formally known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), in 2018 during Trump’s first term.

Recent diplomatic efforts in Geneva aimed at reviving or restructuring a nuclear understanding have produced limited breakthroughs. While officials have indicated some marginal progress, major disagreements reportedly remain unresolved. President Trump has previously warned that failure to reach a new agreement could lead to serious consequences.

Regional Dynamics and Strategic Considerations

Israel has consistently expressed strong opposition to Iran’s nuclear ambitions, and coordination between Washington and Tel Aviv has reportedly intensified in recent months.

Observers also cite broader strategic factors that may influence US decision-making, including energy market stability, regional security concerns, and assessments of Iran’s domestic political climate following past protests and military exchanges.

No Final Decision Yet

Despite visible military preparations, no official announcement has been made regarding any strike. Sources suggest the US administration is weighing diplomatic engagement against the potential risks of escalation.

Any military action could trigger retaliation from Tehran and heighten the risk of a wider regional confrontation.
