The half-burnt dead body of a forest official identified as Sishir Sahu, was recovered from his house at Baramasidanda area under Panchirida section in Nayagarh district of Odisha. Sahu served as the forester of the region.
According to reports, the incident occurred on late Saturday night while Sishir’s wife and son were present at home. Suddenly, fire was seen emerging from the house. His body was later found lying on the bed in their bedroom, partially burnt. His wife also sustained minor burn injuries and was taken to the hospital, while their son was unharmed.
Questions Over Possible Pressure From Seniors
A previous incident had occurred within the same forest range under Sishir Sahu’s jurisdiction, where police recovered a half-burnt body from the forest with a bullet injury. As per reports, the man was accidentally shot by a hunter, leading to his death. It is alleged that a deal was struck with Rs 4 lakh in cash and a piece of land between the hunters and some forest officials, following which the body was hurriedly burnt on a pyre.
With Sishir Sahu now found dead in similar circumstances, suspicions have risen regarding a possible link between the two deaths. Questions are being raised whether he was under pressure from senior officials in connection with the earlier incident involving the body found in the forest.
Arson or Self-Immolation
The exact reason behind the fire in Sishir’s house remains unclear. Police is looking into whether it was a case of self-immolation or deliberate arson.
Wife and Son in Custody, Police Probing All Angles
Sishir’s wife and son are currently in police custody. While the wife is under treatment for minor injuries, the son is being questioned. Police will question the wife after her primary treatment is complete. Investigations are ongoing in all possible directions.
