Foreign-origin gold worth over Rs 2.98 crore seized in Odisha; 2 arrested

The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) seized gold worth over Rs 2.98 crore from a bus in Odisha, leading to the arrest of two individuals. The duo was traveling from Kolkata to Hyderabad with smuggled gold concealed in a cloth waistband.

The officials of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) have seized gold worth over Rs 2 crore from a bus. Two persons have also been arrested in this connection.

As per initial reports, the DRI officials had arrested the duo, who was travelling in a bus from Kolkata to Hyderabad. The duo was nabbed based on specific intelligence regarding the movement of smuggled foreign-origin gold from Kolkata by bus.

Surprisingly, the smuggled gold was concealed in a cloth waistband worn by the two persons.

In a release, DRI Hyderabad said that the gold weighs 3982.25 grams and is valued at Rs.2,98,90,780. Both persons were arrested under the provisions of the Customs Act, of 1962.
