In a major setback for BJD, party leader and Badamba block chairman Raghupati Mohanty on Monday resigned from the Conch party in Cuttack district. Submitting his resignation letter via email to BJD president Naveen Patnaik, Mohanty stated that he was resigning from the primary membership of the party.

The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) has encountered a notable political hurdle following the resignation of Mohanty. In a candid resignation letter, Mr Mohanty conveyed his feelings of redundancy within the party framework.

He wrote, "I find myself redundant and hence, I am tendering my resignation," indicating his perceived lack of necessity for involvement in the party's organisational and political proceedings.

His resignation letter in Odia read, “For the past so many years, I have been working tirelessly as an ideal worker for the development of my place. I have very diligently carried out all the responsibilities empowered on me by the party. But, after all these years, now I feel unwanted. It seems like the party doesn’t need me anymore for organisation and political proceedings.”

“So, I have decided to move forward in life. However, my service for my people and effort for the development of my area shall continue forever,” Raghupati Mohanty concluded.

The resignation marks a significant moment for the BJD in Badamba, a region where the party has historically held a strong presence. Mr Mohanty had played a pivotal role within the party in this area and was a close confidante of senior BJD leader and former minister Debi Mishra of Badama.

The move has sparked discussions among political observers about the potential ramifications for the party's operational strategy in the state.

Worth mentioning, several other BJD leaders, including Bari Block Chairman Ashok Kumar Gedi, Derabish Block Chairman Saroj Kant Sahoo, Khallikote’s Daithari Behera, Kabisuryanagar’s Jyotirmaya Swain and Gondia’s chairperson Rina Rani Khatua have quit BJD in the recent past.

Meanwhile, reports suggest that Mohanty may join BJP soon. However, there has been no official confirmation in this regard.
