New Delhi: A 38-year-old woman swine flu patient, admitted at a city hospital for over a week, had succumbed to the disease becoming the fifth fatality in the capital, health officials said Friday. Five fresh cases were also reported, taking the number of affected to 36.
The woman was a resident of Uttam Nagar in west Delhi and admitted to Ram Manohar Lohia hospital in central Delhi Jan 4.
"The patient died around 10 p.m Thursday. She was on ventilation since the day she was admitted. Her conditions deteriorated thereafter," said Charan Singh, the nodal officer for swine flu cases in Delhi.
H.K. Kar, superintendent of RML hospital said that the patient was suffering from respiratory issues which worsened with time.
The four patients who earlier died included a 30-year-old man from east Delhi, A 42-year-old woman from Uttam Nagar in west Delhi, A 39-year-old man from Faridabad in neighbouring Haryana and a 51-year-old woman from Ghaziabad of Uttar Pradesh admitted at a city hospital.
Among the five fresh cases reported Friday include four men and a woman.
"The four men are from Laxmi Nagar, Mehrauli, I.P.Extension and Rajouri Garden while the woman belongs to Punjabi Bagh," Singh said.
