The Odisha Crime Branch on Friday registered a case against the Bharatpur police station IIC and four other suspended cops and initiated a probe in connection with the alleged ‘sexual assault’ on an Indian Army Major's fiancé that rocked the State capital.

The Crime Branch has filed a criminal case 11/2024 and directed the five suspended police officers to appear before the CB for interrogation. The case was filed after the Indian Army officer of Sikh Regiment Major Gurvansh Singh lodged an official complaint with the Crime Branch.

Meanwhile, Singh’s fiancee during her first media interaction alleged sexual harassment by the on-duty police officers IIC Dinakrushna Mishra, SI Baisalini Panda, ASI Salilamayee Sahoo, ASI Sagarika Rath, and Constable Balaram Handa. After her health check-up at AIIM Bhubaneswar, she said, “I was physically and sexually assaulted by the on-duty police officers including the IIC.”

“After closing my restaurant at around 1 am on September 15, we were returning home when some miscreants misbehaved with us. We somehow managed to escape and reached Bharatpur police station and requested the cops present to apprehend the miscreants first,” she stated.

“However, they refused to register our complaint and forcibly put Gurvansh in the lockup. Later, two female officers dragged me by holding my hair and started thrashing me. In between, a lady officer tried to strangle me, and in self-defense, I bit her hand,” she narrated.

“Later, they tied my hands with my jacket and legs with a scarf of the lady constable. They put me inside a room. Later, a male officer sexually assaulted me. At around 6 am, the IIC came and started assaulting me sexually,” she alleged.

On the other hand, the National Commission of Women (NCW) has also sought an Action Taken Report (ATR) from Odisha Director General of Police (DGP) YB Khurania.
