Commissionerate police on Thursday arrested a burglar in Andhra Pradesh in connection with the theft case at Odisha Congress leader Niranjan Patnaik’s residence in Bhubaneswar.
As per the latest information provided by Police Commissioner S Dev Datta Singh, an infamous burglar from Andhra Pradesh dubbed 'Spider Satish' was involved in connection with the theft case at the residence of former minister Niranjan Patnaik. The thief allegedly used online search tools to locate wealthy individuals and plan his illicit activities.
After meticulous investigations, the Commissionerate Police apprehended Spider Satish and retrieved the stolen items. Police Commissioner S Dev Datta Singh revealed that the police checked over 400 CCTV cameras and reviewed approximately 10,000 phone logs. They also conducted background checks on some 50 individuals in an effort to capture the suspect.
The Commissionerate Police faced significant challenges in identifying the accused. Initial suspicions arose after sightings on CCTV in the Baramunda area. Consequently, special teams travelled across Andhra Pradesh and neighbouring states including Telangana, and Kerala for investigations. Earlier this year, the suspect was imprisoned in Kerala from July to September. Since then he was missing.
Following an intricate investigation, Spider Satish was arrested in Vizianagaram. His method of theft involved scouting for homes with easy access, favouring those with sliding doors. Reports suggest he is implicated in 70 crimes.

Among his previous suspected crimes was a 2023 incident at the ARSS owner’s property. During that time, his identity remained unascertained.
“After checking over 400 CCTV cameras, reviewing approximately 10,000 phone logs and conducting background checks on some 50 individuals, the thief was arrested. It was a time-consuming process. We tracked the movement of the suspect by checking the CCTV footage in Baramunda. He was found talking while sitting in a vehicle. Investigations were carried out in Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Kerala for his arrest. He was in Kerala jail from July to September. After coming from the jail, he was missing. He was also involved in another theft case in 2023. However, his identity could not be established then despite having a lot of effort,” said Police Commissioner S Dev Datta Singh.
