Vision Behind the Pandal

Through ‘Arji’, the organisers aimed to depict the Indian justice system in a symbolic and thought-provoking manner. One of the organisers explained that when people face injustice or commit wrongdoing, they might not always receive justice or punishment in manmade courts. However, in the court of the Gods, every individual is served what they truly deserve. She further elaborated that the term ‘Arji’ means a prayer, emphasising the spiritual appeal inherent in the pandal’s theme.

Symbolic Elements and Artistic Details

The pandal features a statue of a man in a cage, symbolising a person’s appeal to the Goddess for justice. Lord Hanuman is shown carrying the weight of everyone’s requests, representing his role as a divine witness and supporter of righteousness. Each element of the display has been carefully crafted to convey the importance of fairness, accountability, and divine justice.

Cultural Significance

A devotee visiting the pandal said, “Lord Jagannath, Devi Subhadra and Lord Balaram have been a part of our worship since always. This is an integral part of Odia culture. All festivals and worship of the Hindu deities begin with Rath Yatra.”

The pandal, therefore, not only highlights justice and devotion but also strengthens the cultural ties of the Odia community in Kolkata.

A Reflection on Justice and Faith

With its intricate symbolism and cultural depth, ‘Arji’ stands out as more than just a festive decoration. It encourages devotees to reflect on morality, justice, and the eternal role of the divine in guiding human life, blending spirituality with a powerful social message.
