Cyclone Nivar To Hit Tamil Nadu, Puducherry Tonight

The deep depression over southwest Bay of Bengal has further intensified into severe cyclonic storm ‘Nivar’ and is heading towards Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. Nivar is likely to further intensify into very severe cyclonic storm and is expected to cross Tamil Nadu and Puducherry coasts around midnight today and early morning of November 26.

Koraput Police Pays Tribute To Its Sniffer Dog Gracy

The Koraput Police department lost a valuable member of their team today. This is no ordinary funeral but a farewell gathering for Gracy, the 9-year-old female sniffer dog, who died today morning. Gracy was given farewell by the Koraput Police for her service to the department. Gracy had received her training from Tekanpur in Madhya Pradhesh. After her training, she served in Nabarangpur, Kalahandi and then in Koraput. Gracy was instrumental in assisting police to solve many cases. Gracy also bagged a lot of awards in competitions during the Annual Police Meets and in 2016 she won a medal for securing the first place.

Another AIIMS In Odisha Soon?

Odisha may get another AIIMS soon! The Odisha government has requested the Centre for establishment of a second AIIMS in the State in Sundargarh district. Chief Secretary of Odisha Asit Tripathy wrote a letter to the Secretary of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare proposing the idea. Citing the example of Bihar, where a second AIIMS was recently approved, Odisha government has proposed the idea in view of the health care requirements of the state. Odisha government has proposed that the second AIIMS may be considered for Western Odisha in the district of Sundargarh.

COVID-19 Guidelines For December 2020

With certain states experiencing another wave of COVID19, the Union Home Ministry has issued a fresh set of guidelines for the month of December that will remain in force till the end of the year. No movement will be allowed in or out of the containment zones with the exception of medical emergencies and essential services. All States and Union Territories are ordered to properly demarcate the containment zones. Outside of the containment zones, all activities will continue as usual. Cinema halls and theatres will continue to operate with up to 50 percent capacity while International air travel will be as permitted by the Ministry of Home Affairs. Swimming pools to remain open for sportspersons, while exhibition halls can only be used for business-to-business purposes. There will be no restriction on inter-state and intra-State movement.

A project that was conceived before Independence in the year 1945, is yet to see completion. The Railway project, which had promised to connect Khurda and Bolangir districts, continues to move at a snail’s pace. It was in the year 1994 that the project was approved and the Centre had set a budget of 400 crore rupees after conducting four surveys for the project. The railway line is still to be completed and the budget has increased 10 folds to 4000 crore rupees.
