Pipili ByPoll: Nomination On April 26, Voting On May 13, ECI Issues Formal Notification

The Election Commission of India (ECI) has issued a formal notification for the by-elections to Pipili which was postponed following the death of Congress candidate Ajit Mangaraj. As per the notification, the last date for filing nominations has been fixed for April 26. While the scrutiny of nominations will be held on April 27, the last date for withdrawal of nomination is April 29. The Election Commission has stated that the by-polls will be held on May 13th 2021, between 7 AM and 6 PM. The election process shall be completed by May 18, the ECI has said. The fresh notification for the by-election has been issued after the Returning Officer adjourned the poll as per the provisions of sub-section (2) of Section 52 of Representation of the People Act, 1951.

Odisha To Monitor Black Marketing Of Remdesivir

The Odisha government has constituted a State-level Committee amid reported shortage and black marketing of Covid-19 medicines and medical supplies in several parts of the country. As per reports, the Committee which will be headed by Crime Branch ADG Yashwant Kumar Jethwa has already discussed several issues in a meeting on Sunday. Addressing a press meet on Monday, Jethwa said that flying squads, surveillance teams and surprise-visit teams have been constituted. Drug controller, Police, Special Task Force (STF) of Crime Branch will be part of the Joint Enforcement squad which will carry out special drives across the State.

2 Dead, 3 Critical In An Explosion In Odisha’s Berhampur

In an unfortunate incident, two people were killed while three people sustained critical injuries in a deadly explosion in Berhampur on Monday (April 19). The mishap took place inside a house at Kukudakhandi village under Berhampur Sadar Police Station on Ganjam district. While one person died on the spot, the other succumbed to his injuries, while on his way to MKCG Hospital. The deceased have been identified as A. Santosh Kumar from Kukudakhandi Panchayat and Suraj Patro from Ankushpur Panchayat. The persons injured in the mishap were admitted to the MKCG Medical College and Hospital (MKCG-MCH) in a critical condition. According to locals, the mishap could have occurred due to stone blasting in a crusher unit in the vicinity or due to an LPG cylinder blast inside the house.

Markets In Bhubaneswar To Be Decentralised Amid Surging COVID-19 Cases

The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Monday decided to strictly enforce the Covid-19 norms in markets and haats in different parts of the Capital city. Amid a surge in COVID19 cases in the state, social distancing at places prone to crowding is being given utmost importance. In view of the same, BMC has decided to decentralise markets in the city to avoid crowding. Moreover, commercial establishments and other shops will be sealed if social distancing norms are flouted. The use of masks will also be mandatory and violations would attract closure of the concerned institution. Such norms as well as Covid-19 appropriate behaviour will be strictly enforced at Dumduma, Patia, Damana, Unit-4, Unit-1, Unit-2 and other markets across Bhubaneswar. All the Zonal Deputy Commissioners have been asked to ensure strict enforcement of the COVID norms and other guidelines issued by the State government.

#COVID​-19 Second Wave: No Political Rallies By BJD For Pipili Bypoll, Informs Naveen

In the wake of an extremely serious Covid-19 situation in the state, the ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) has decided not to hold any public rallies or campaign meetings in Pipili assembly constituency for the upcoming by-polls. Odisha Chief Minister and BJD supremo Naveen Patnaik announced the decision on Monday through a series of tweets and said that his party will not hold any public rallies or campaign meetings in Pipili. In a tweet, the Chief Minister said that BJD took this decision as it believes that every life is precious. Naveen Patnaik also said that BJD is a responsible party and will not put the lives of people in danger. The CM also requested the other political parties and the Election Commission of India to reconsider both the duration and the method of campaigning if the campaign has a potential to endanger lives. On Monday, the Election Commission of India (ECI) issued a formal notification for the Pipili by-elections. As per the notification, the last date for filing nominations is fixed for April 26 while the voting for Pipili Bypoll will be held on May 13.
