We Report, You Decide

How independent are women in various sections of society? Do they get the respect they deserve? Are they able to avail the benefits of the various provisions for them in the Constitution? Women in the 21st century face many such questions. OTV, the leading news channel in Odisha, organised ‘Prerana’, a special programme to discuss all these issues recently.

Five eminent women shared their views on five such issues in the programme, which is being on the occasion of International Women’s Day every year since 2013. Noted Hindi and Marathi actor Gouri Karnik spoke on the topic “Why many women have to sacrifice their professional career after marriage?” Dr Sujata Kelkar Shetty discussed “Essentials for a woman’s wellness journey”. Puja Marwah dwelt on the issue of “How empowerment of Women can lead us to ensure Happy Healthy and Creative Childhood?” B Radhika shared her thoughts on “How more women can come forward to lodge complaints with police?” while actor Ushashi Mishra deliberated on “Issues faced by women working in Odia Cinema, TV & Jatra”. The assembled women asked questions to the panelists.

This was followed by a freewheeling discussion on “Investing in women and girls”, the main theme of this year’s edition of Prerana, in which everyone participated.

Five women achievers from various fields were felicitated at the beginning of the programme by Mrs Jagi Mangat Panda, the Director of OTV. Jagruti Mohanty anchored the programme.
