The film, starring his son Imaad, Konkona Sen Sharma, Paresh Rawal, Irrfan Khan, Ayesha Takia and his old friend Ravi Baswani explored four stories which eventually become intertwined with the 9/11 attacks. However, it did not click well with the audience.
"I think if I would have got another chance to make the film again I think I would have done a better job. I don't think I am a good filmmaker. I am personally disappointed by the film. To make films is difficult and I admire those who make it," Shah told reporters here at the press conference of his upcoming film 'Sona Spa'.
The 62-year-old plays Baba Dayanand, who runs the spa in the Makrand Deshpande film.
"It was the desire to be part of this project and not the role. It's not a great role. It was not the most challenging..I believe actors are remembered not by how good and skilful they were but by films."
"I am at a stage of my career where I want to enjoy the work that I do. And that is my dream. I want that to happen more than anything else. As a result, in three years I have done four years. Some of them did not do well but I enjoyed doing them," he said.
The film is based on a Hindi play, written and directed by Deshpande himself and brings the serious issue of lack of sleep due to various reasons resulting in a unhealthy and tiring life.
The film also stars Aahana Kumrah, Shruti Vyas, Pooja Pradhan, Nivedita Bhattacharya, Vinit Sharma, Romi Jaispal and releases on March 22.
"The film is about a world which is full of fame, glamour and money but it lacks sleep. At 'Sona Spa' one can buy sleep anytime, day or night," director Deshpande said.
