Late music director Wajid Khan, Kamalrukh Khan has opened up about being continued harassment by his husband’s family for not converting to Islam. This was followed by Kangana Ranaut backing Kamal, who is a clinical hypnotherapist by profession, on Twitter.
Six months after composer Wajid Khan’s untimely death, his wife penned a long note on her Instagram account to open up about her bitter ordeal with her inter-caste marriage. She is a Parsi and he is a Muslim and married under the Special Marriages Act, the act allowed them to practice their own religions after getting married.
But the pressure from her in-laws to convert to Islam which she refused caused a massive rift between her and Wajid as well. She alleged that they used various tactics included taking her to the court seeking a divorce. Even after the music composer’s death, the "harassment from his family continues", she added.
Wajid was the part of the music-composer duo, Sajid-Wajid, with his brother Sajid Khan. Wajid passed away in June this year due to cardiac arrest. He had also tested positive for the coronavirus. She also shared in the note that she wished Wajid had spent more time with her and the kids without religious prejudices.
“My children and I miss him dearly and we wish he had dedicated more time to us as a family, devoid of religious prejudices, the way he did while creating his melodies. We never got to be a family due to his and his family’s religious fanaticism.” She shared.
In the end, Kamlarukh concluded by stating that the anti-conversion bill should be passed so that women don’t go through this experience and religion doesn’t become a reason for families splitting up.
Actress Kangana Ranaut came in her support on Twitter, she reached out to Prime Minister regarding the protection of minority communities like the Parsis, which “do not seek sympathy by creating tension and are decreasing in numbers.” She also condemned the conversion of religion in inter-caste marriages.
