Short film Natkhat has entered the race for Oscars 2021 in the category of the Best Short Film. Starring Vidya Balan along with child artiste Sanika Patel, the film is about a mother trying to educate her little son about gender equality and challenging the notion of boys will be boys.
Natkhat is directed by Shaan Vyas who is known for producing films like Masaan and Zubaan. The film has already won a number of accolades at international and national award functions. Natkhat premiered on YouTube as part of the We Are One: A Global Film Festival. This 33-minute long short film is yet to be available in India on digital platforms, the date hasn’t been announced yet.
Expressing her gratitude for the film's selection in the Oscars race, Vidya Balan wrote: "So so so thrilled that our film #NATKHAT is in the race for the #OSCARS2021 after 2020 filled with prestigious international film festivals."
In another post, Vidya shared a snippet of the film where she was seen as the mother teaching her son about patriarchy and the lessons of gender equality through bedtime stories.
